The USC football team Monday afternoon landed a commitment from QB Dylan Thompson (6-3 210) of Boiling Springs.
Thompson is the second quarterback commitment for the 2010 class joining Connor Shaw of Flowery Branch, Ga.
Thompson came to USC's camp Sunday without an offer from the Gamecocks but with the knowledge that he could help himself with a good showing in front of head coach Steve Spurrier.
"Coach Lawing was talking to me and said they might take two quarterbacks," Thompson said. "I wasn't too high on South Carolina because I haven't heard too much from them. But at camp yesterday coach Spurrier worked with me.
Never miss a local story.
"I called my parents last night and told them coach Spurrier liked me," he said. "Today I had another good day and he had me up in his office and he offered. I committed right there. I just feel blessed. Not many people get the chance to play football, or for that matter in the SEC."
And Thompson is excited about the chance to play quarterback for Spurrier.
"I loved him," he said. "I got to camp and worked out for him. I busted my butt and it seemed like he liked me a lot."
Furman was Thompson's only other offer before USC offered. Thompson played just seven games last season and he completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for 395 yards and five scores.
