For the first time in awhile, South Carolina has been picked to finish in the top half of the SEC East by the media.
The Gamecocks finished third in the media balloting here in Hoover, announced this morning.
Florida was a unanimous first in the East, earning all 64 votes, followed by Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
(On a side note, 64 voters out of more than 900 credentialed media is a rather sad turnout. A lot of us, frankly, just don’t have the time to fill out a ballot, myself among them.)
Alabama was the pick to win the West, with 33 votes, followed by LSU (15 votes) and Mississippi (which got 16 first-place votes, but finished in third place overall.) Then it was Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi State.
Linebacker Eric Norwood was USC’s lone entry on the preseason All-SEC list, first or second team. That may be a bit of a surprise.
