DB Darrell Givens (6-1 172) of Indian Head, MD, signed with Penn State last February, has contacted USC to gauge their interest in him now that he has been released from his letter of intent. According to sources, Givens and his coach have been in touch with USC coaches. His former high school coach today contacted two Gamecock assistants and Givens is expected to talk with at least one of the assistants by phone tonight.
Givens was denied admission to Penn State over a GPA issue but is belieived to be NCAA qualified according to a source. He declined Penn State's request to enroll at a prep school. Givens and his coach were to send paperwork to USC today and that paperwork was to be forwarded to USC admissions for review.
Givens told the web site BlueWhiteIllustrated that he plans to have a decision by Saturday and is considering eight schools...USC, Miami, Florida, Rutgers, North Carolina, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Nebraska.
Givens was regarded as one of the nation's top corners last season. He had nearly 30 offers and originally committed to Ohio State before changing to Penn State. USC tried to get him down for a visit but he did not make it. Last season Givens had 63 tackles with 4 interceptions.
