KNOXVILLE, Tenn. | Tennessee coaches are trying freshman wide receiver Nu'Keese Richardson out at quarterback.
Coach Lane Kiffin said Monday night after practice that the coaching staff will continue to try the special-play package with Richardson, despite his struggles with it earlier in the day.
The package is similar to one run by junior wide receiver Gerald Jones in the last two seasons. Safety Eric Berry also took a few snaps under center.
Kiffin says Jones' wrist being in a cast makes it a little too hard for him to practice at quarterback. He also wants Jones to focus on developing into the Vols' featured flanker receiver.
Kiffin says he doesn't want to do anything that will distract Berry from another All-America caliber performance in the secondary or from fully adopting Tennessee's new defensive scheme.
