ATH Mario Jones (5-8 180) of Myrtle Beach did not return to Coffeyville JC, KS for this season. Jones is attending Horry-Georgetown TEC in an effort to get the three hours he needs to enroll at at a school in January.
"I was just three hours short so I'm staying home, working out and getting these three hours," Jones said. "I want to be able to enroll in January and play spring ball."
Jones said he's been in touch with USC, Marshall and Coastal Carolina. He said he talked with Gamecock recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. a couple of weeks ago. "He just told me to be eligible when December comes around," Jones said. "All the schools are saying the same thing about offers, but they want me to get eligible. I'm just looking for the best opportunity."
Jones said he might take an unofficial visit to USC during the season. He made a visit earlier in the summer. Jones is being recruited as a slot receiver and return man. He can also play cornerback. He redshirted last season at Coffeyville and should have four years of eligibility remaining.
Jones graduated from Myrtle Beach in 2008 and played in the North-South Game. He had over 2500 all purpose yards as a high school senior.
