Ben Axon has a home – and a new hairstyle.
Axon, the Tampa-area tailback who twice posted to this blog while awaiting word on his fate at USC, has landed at Eastern Michigan.
The release from Eastern Michigan on Thursday was surprisingly frank, addressing Axon’s marijuana arrest in May and detailing the stipulations Axon must follow.
EMU coach Ron English said Axon will be required to sit out this year, and keep his record clean and his grades up if he wants to play in 2010.
Never miss a local story.
Like Stephen Garcia a couple years ago, Axon decided a good first step would be cleaning up his look. If you check out the link, you’ll see Axon’s long dreadlocks are gone.
USC’s decision to deny admission to Axon, who was an NCAA qualifier, was due to a combination of his arrest and academic record.
EMU said Axon was approved by an admissions review committee, which considered his 2.7 high school GPA, an interview with Axon and letters of recommendation from his high school coach and principal in making its decision.
USC made the right decision on Axon, but it’s good to see him get another shot.
