Sophomore forward Kayla Grimsley scored the game-winning goal as South Carolina shut out UCF 1-0 at Stone Stadium. The Gamecocks (7-0-0) have not allowed a goal yet this season and are one of only three teams in the nation to have achieved that feat.
Grimsley has scored a point in every game this season and set a new USC record with her seven-match scoring streak.
Redshirt junior Mollie Patton tied the USC single-season shutout record with her seventh of the season after registering three saves in the match. Patton now is the sole NCAA leader in shutouts. Patton has 14 shutouts in her career, one shy of tying the program record of 15 held by Laura Armstrong and Elise Matthews.
USC men tie Northwestern at Lakeside Classic

At Evanston, Ill., junior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer collected three saves to earn his third shutout of the season as USC (3-1-1) battled Northwestern (2-1-2) to a 0-0, double-overtime tie in the opening game of the Lakeside Classic on Friday. Sophomore midfielder Stephen Morrissey led the Gamecock attack with three shots on net.
The match was even in nearly every statistical category as both South Carolina and NU tallied nine shots, collected four saves, and the Wildcats held a slight 6-4 upperhand in corner kick opportunities.
USC concludes action at the Lakeside Classic with a match Sunday against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m.
USC splits three singles at UVa Invitational
At Charlottesville, Va., Miljana Jocic, Adriana Pereira and Rita Maisak all split singles matches as the USC women's tennis team completed its first day of play at the UVa Invitational.
Dijana Stojic also competed in the A draw with Jocic and suffered a pair of losses. Play continues in the UVa Invitational beginning today at 9 a.m.
Gamecocks fall to Arkansas in SEC opener
At Fayetteville, Ark., USC could not overcome a scrappy Arkansas team in the SEC opener, falling 25-16, 25-21, 25-15, at Barnhill Arena.
The Gamecocks (8-2, 0-1 SEC) saw senior libero Sarah Cline post her 10th double-digit dig contest of the campaign with 15. Senior Meredith Moorhead led South Carolina with five block assists to tie her career high.
