South Carolina recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer, who was born into a football family, is making a name for himself.
Beamer, the son of Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, is one of 34 nominees for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.
Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele also is on the list of nominees, which was released this week.
The 32-year-old Beamer is in his third year at USC after serving three seasons on Sylvester Croom’s staff at Mississippi State. Beamer took over as USC’s recruiting coordinator a year ago after David Reaves left for Tennessee.
Beamer also is the Gamecocks’ special teams coordinator, and coaches the strong safeties and spurs.
