USC recruiting coordinator Shane Beamer remains a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Murray State, according to a report from an online news service.
Beamer is one of several candidates mentioned in a story posted today on Examiner.com, an Internet news consortium that has a writer who covers the FCS program.
Beamer, 32, is one of 34 nominees for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Beamer also is the Gamecocks’ special teams coordinator and coaches the team’s strong safeties and spurs.
Beamer told The State last month he had not had any contact with Murray State, the Kentucky school where his father, Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, worked before taking the job at Virginia Tech.
Beamer also said it would be “highly flattering” if he were approached by Murray State, which fired Matt Griffin after an 11-33 tenure at the school.
