May 29: Officers search 51 acres in Lexington County. U.S. Attorney's Office confirms an unspecified number of people are being investigated for animal cruelty, animal fighting, tax and gambling violations.
Early November: Federal grand jury indicts 21 statewide for felony animal fighting and illegal gambling at Williamsburg, Lexington County sites; 36 face state misdemeanor charges for attending the fights.
Early December: Six who attended Williamsburg County events plead guilty to misdemeanor charges.
Dec. 10: Investigation widens; federal grand jury indicts Gene A. Jeffcoat of Lexington County and James M. Collins Jr. of Spartanburg County, identified by prosecutors as fight organizers. Authorities move to seize 68 acres of Jeffcoat's property near Swansea.
