WR Hakeem Flowers (6-3 189) of Wade Hampton is holding 34 written offers at this point, but USC and Clemson are not among them. Flowers has offers from Miami, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina, Duke, NC State, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado, Vanderbilt and others. Georgia and Texas have also expressed interest.
USC and Clemson are showing interest as well and want to evaluate him further according to Generals coach Kent Haltiwanger. "He's really looking out of state," the coach said. "The Notre Dame offer was big. Coach Kelly was on him at Cincinnati pretty hard."
Flowers does plan to attend USC's junior day February 20th, but he's going primarily to accompany his teammate, sophomore RB Blake Hayes (5-11 192), whom USC is very interested in. Hayes rushed for 1389 yards and had 514 receiving yards last season, and he scored 22 TDs.
Flowers has no timetable for a decision. He will visit Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Texas Tech and other schools out west this summer.
Flowers has "blazing speed" according to his coach and has run a 10.4 100 meters. "He's tall enough and big enough to go get the ball," Haltiwanger said. "He has great hands, big hands." Flowers suffered a seperated shoulder in the second game of last season. He continued to play but wasn't as effective as he could be. He caught about 50 passes for 800 yards and eight touchdowns.
