LB Carson Smith (6-2 215) of Mauldin has not received that first offer but feels he is nearing it with both East Carolina and Duke. "They're coming in to see me at spring practice and hopefully they will offer soon," said Smith. He says he is confident that one or both could offer and says Boston College is another school that may offer after seeing him practice.
Other schools showing interest are Clemson, USC, Georgia Tech, (all of whom plan to be in Mauldin this week) NC State, Vanderbilt, Air Force, Harvard, Brown, and Illinois. Smith says he will begin planning which camps he will attend this week after he gauges the interest level of each school.
"I would like to go to four or five camps, if I can," he said. "I spoke with (Shawn) Elliott on Friday and he wants me to come on June 7 and June 11." Elliott, the new USC offensive line coach, told Smith that those are the days they will work on linebackers during two seperate camps.
Last season, Smith racked up 116 solo tackles, seven sacks, two interceptions, and three fumble recoveries returning one for a score. He does not have any favorites.
