Mississippi defeated South Carolina 3-0 Wednesday in the opening round of the SEC baseball tournament in Hoover, Ala.
The Gamecocks (43-14) play Auburn at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in an elimination game. Mississippi (37-20) advances to play Alabama on Thursday afternoon.
USC managed six hits against Ole Miss starter Drew Pomeranz but couldn't come up with any runs. Pomeranz pitched seven innings and struck out seven in the win.
The Gamecocks finished with seven hits, with Christian Walker and Jackie Bradley Jr. collecting two hits each.
Rebels catcher Miles Hamblin supplied most of the offense with a two-run home run in the third inning off Gamecocks starter Nolan Belcher.
Belcher lasted three innings, striking out three, walking two and giving up the two earned runs.
