DE Jadeveon Clowney (6-6 240) of South Pointe made an unofficial visit to Alabama Saturday. He was there along with teammates Gerald Dixon and Spencer Carroll, and his coach Bobby Carroll.
"They let their players show them around," Bobby Carroll said. "They were just hanging out with the players and having fun. He got to see the facilities and the whole genre of Alabama football. It's an incredible history. The last thing we did today was walk thru the stadium. It was good."
Clowney now has visited USC, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and he might take a few more visits in July. Carroll says Clowney is keeping an open mind at this point. "They all talk about the same thing...graduation and developing the players as people," Carroll said. "He just sat there and listened. There's no clear favorite. He's smart enough to know that before he makes a decision, he has to visit these places. All of them are good programs. All have their characteristics that stand out."
Carroll said from what he can gather from his conversations with Clowney, USC, Clemson, LSU, Miami, Alabama, Florida State and North Carolina are sort of a lead pack for him. And Carroll can't sense an in state leader right now. "If he does favor one, I can't tell it," he said. "He talks about both equally and likes the coaching staffs equally."
Clowney plans to announce his choice during the Under Armour All American Game in January.
