OL Zach DeBell (6-7 265) of Tarpon Springs, FL came to USC Saturday for an unofficial visit, and the Gamecocks were not among his lead group going into the visit. But after spending several hours on campus with line coach Shawn Elliott and recruiter GA Mangus, DeBell now has the Gamecocks among his favorites along with Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, UCLA and South Florida.
"It went pretty well," DeBell said. "I had a lot of laughs with coach Elliott and coach Mangus. We had a lot of fun. It was a relaxed day." The day included a tour of the facilities, a meeting with the strength coaches, the quarterbacks, and a chance meeting with freshman running back Marcus Lattimore. "He came up and shook my hand," DeBell said. "I didn't even know he knew my name. He's a nice guy." DeBell did not see Steve Spurrier but did meet Steve Spurrier Jr.
This was his third visit to USC. He was there November and again in the spring. He also has recently visited Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and South Florida, and he will visit Tennessee Monday and Georgia Friday. "I'm just trying to find out where I fit in," said DeBell who will trim his list a little more before his season and then make a decsion during his season.
Clemson also has been involved. but DeBell said he doesn't have plans for a visit with the Tigers right now. There is no leader.
