Defensive back Thomas Finnie (5-11 165) of Miami committed to South Carolina on Monday after making an unofficial visit to the campus.
Finnie also had offers from Syracuse, Purdue, Florida International and Central Florida.
He toured the facilities and met with recruiter with Jeep Hunter and defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward. Finnie was offered on the visit and committed on the spot.
"I like the atmosphere and I liked the town," Finnie said. "The coaches made me feel at home. They play the same style of defense we play, a lot of man coverage and 4-3 zone. I'm just going to prepare myself to get better and be great by the time I leave here."
Finnie plays cornerback and had four interceptions last season. He has good cover skills and is considered a solid lockdown corner.
"You put me on an island with that top receiver, and you're not going to hear from him anymore in the game," Finnie said. "I love sticking my nose in there."
He's the eighth commitment for the Gamecocks' 2011 class.
