Authorities closed a block of Heyward Street in the Shandon neighborhood Monday morning for a couple of hours after a stump-grinding crew cut a natural gas line.
No one was evacuated, but residents along the 2400 block were asked to stay inside their homes after the 8:45 a.m. rupture, fire chief Aubrey Jenkins said.
Firefighters were at the scene, at the intersection with Harden Street, for about two hours until SCE&G fixed the damaged line, Jenkins said.
