Thousands are expected to line up at the Carolina Coliseum for free health care starting today as part of SC Mission 2011: Midlands.
Free medical and eye care will be available 6 a.m.-10 p.m. today and 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Dental care will be available continuously from 6 this morning until 4 p.m. Saturday. Services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis at the Coliseum, 701 Assembly St.
Free parking is behind the Coliseum. But patients arriving Saturday morning might encounter parking traffic jams, because USC’s summer school graduation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. next door at the Colonial Life Arena.

Water festival spashes down Saturday at Riverfront Park
Richland County, Lexington County and the City of Columbia will host the second annual Summer Celebration of Water Festival, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel St.
The free event will feature family-friendly and water-related activities including tubing, kayaking, fishing and a slip and slide. Participants should dress to get wet.
The festival was designed to raise awareness of water quality and the importance of clean rivers and streams. August is national water quality month.
