Dave Rodgers has stepped down after five years as town police chief.
He quit after being told Town Council was ready to fire him for unspecified reasons, according to a letter town officials made public Thursday.
His letter also said his decision came “without admitting any allegations of improper actions.”
Mayor Stan Shealy declined comment and efforts to reach Rodgers were unsuccessful.
