The State Budget and Control Board has agreed to pay a combined $609,500 to three former Department of Corrections employees in order to settle some lawsuits.
The three employees all worked at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, who say they were fired or forced to retire over allegations of lax boiler room security.
Taxpayers will pay Calvin Anthony, the warden, $342,500. Associate Warden Henry Pridgen gets $225,000 and maintenance chief Thomas Morrow gets $42,000.
South Carolina’s insurance reserve fund will pay $50,000 of the settlements. The Department of Corrections will have to pay the rest using money from its operating budget.
