Senators have delayed their discussion until Tuesday on appointing Catherine Templeton to lead the state’s Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Sen. Phil Leventis, D-Sumer, filibustered Templeton’s appointment for about four hours Wednesday, saying she lacked the experience to head the complex, expansive agency and that other candidates were not given serious consideration.
Thursday, senators agreed to discuss other business and return to the appointment discussion Tuesday.
When the debate resumes Tuesday, Leventis will have the Senate floor and can continue his filibuster unless Republicans can garner enough votes to push through Templeton’s appointment.
