The Clemson Tigers came in as ACC Atlantic division champs, but it was the Gamecocks who were dominant in a 34-17 victory.
The Tigers struck quickly as C.J. Spiller returns the opening kickoff 88 yards for a TD. However, momentum swung USC’s way when Eric Norwood recovered a Clemson fumble followed by two Carolina first quarter TDs.
A Spencer Lanning 47-yard FG moved the USC lead to 17-7 at halftime. Tori Gurley’s 14-yard TD reception in the third quarter gave Carolina a comfortable 24-7 lead. A Michael Palmer TD with 3:46 left brought the Tigers close, but TE Weslye Saunders’ second TD reception one minute later put it on ice for Carolina.
