The Gamecocks weren’t supposed to win on the road, but indeed they did, 62-58 over Tennessee in Knoxville. Freshman BJ McKie scored a career-high 24 points in leading Carolina to only its sixth SEC road win since joining the league in 1992.
USC jumped out to an early 21-8 lead, hitting 8 of its first 12 shots. At the half, Carolina was up 36-28. In the second half, it was McKie who hit the big shots down the stretch. A baseline jumper with 4:40 to go gave USC a 10-point lead. BJ also connected on two free throws with 30 seconds left to seal the victory.
