Melvin Watson’s driving layup with only four seconds remaining lifted Carolina to its first ever victory in Tuscaloosa 62-60. It was sweet revenge for Watson who had dribbled the ball off his foot in the last seconds vs. Alabama in the NIT quarterfinals the previous year.
Carolina ran its record to an improbable 6-0 in the SEC.
Carolina looked to be in control of game in the second half with a 42-30 lead. However, an 11-2 Bama run closed the gap to three, and it remained tight down to the end when Watson’s heroics finally pulled it out for USC.
