Number one fell as Carolina knocked off top-ranked Kentucky 68-62 in Columbia.
Led by the great Devan Downey, Carolina silenced the doubters, including President Obama, and defeated a No. 1 ranked team for the first time. The President said that UK “should be all right” against USC in an earlier telephone conversation with the Wildcats. He called to thank them for their Haiti relief efforts.
Downey was simply phenomenal as he outdueled Kentucky star guard John Wall. Devan went for 30 points, most of them late as he made one spectacular shot after another.
Downey’s 20.3 PPG career scoring average is the third best in USC history.
