Guided by acting coach Steve Steinwedel, Carolina clobbered its upstate rival Clemson 94-77 at the Coliseum. Steinwedel served as interim coach after Bill Foster took a leave of absence for health reasons earlier in the season.
Carolina jumped out quickly in this game and never looked back, shooting 66.7% in the first half. Carolina expanded a 13-point halftime lead to 23 quickly and coasted home with a win.
Jimmy Foster led the scoring parade with 19, Kevin Darmody added 17 along with 10 rebounds. PG Gerald Peacock dished out nine assists.
The ’82-’83 squad finished with a record of 22-9, and made it to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
