Carolina edged No. 9 Duke 83-80 in a classic ACC battle.
It was a great back-and-forth game in the first half, ending with a 38-38 tie as the teams headed to the locker room. The tight struggle continued into the second half and wasn’t decided until late when Jack Thompson and Skip Harlicka made six free throws to seal the win.
Ultimately, it was the great free throw shooting by Carolina that was the difference in this game. The Gamecocks made 31 of 35 foul shots, and needed every one of them to pull out a hard-fought victory.
