The Gamecocks go into Rupp Arena and come away with an electrifying 78-77 victory over 24th-ranked Kentucky.
This game could be best described as a game of big runs. USC scored nine consecutive points midway through the first half, but Kentucky countered with a 10-1 stretch. UK went on a nine-point spree early in the second half, but Carolina countered with a 13-point binge.
Devan Downey made the big shot of the game. After UK’s Perry Stevenson missed two free throws with 22 seconds remaining, Downey sank an 8-foot jumper with only 3.2 seconds left to lift the Gamecocks to the huge SEC victory. This was only their second win in 23 tries at Kentucky.
