It was the beginning of a dynasty for Carolina baseball as Ray Tanner coached his first game at USC after taking after for June Raines.
It was a successful debut for Tanner, as the Gamecocks defeated the College of Charleston 9-8, despite falling behind 5-1 after six innings. Ryan Bordenick’s 2-run homer in the eighth inning pushed Carolina ahead for good in the season opener.
It was a sign of great things to come for Carolina baseball, climaxing with the 2010 College World Series Championship.
