No. 19 USC ran its winning streak to a remarkable 12 games after a 76-68 SEC victory over rival Florida in Columbia.
Surprisingly, the big scoring didn’t come from the Davis-McKie-Watson triumvirate. Ryan Stack led the way in this one with a career-high 18 points. Stack played more of an inside game than usual. He chipped in points in the paint with hook shots and baseline dunks.
This was a nip-and-tuck game through the first 35 minutes. However, Carolina made a run, and took the lead for good with 14:39 remaining after a Herbert Lee Davis tip-in.
The Gamecocks were able to hang on down the stretch for the victory, despite hitting only 6 of 14 free throws in the last two minutes. Also, Carolina survived a rare off night by its great backcourt trio.
