It wasn’t only rain that poured down on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, it was the Gamecock bats. After waiting out five-plus hour rain delay, the Gamecocks routed CSU by a score of 38-0 at Sarge Frye Field.
It was a game in which Carolina set or tied numerous school records. Among the records set were most hits (35), doubles (11), total bases (71), and probably most impressive, margin-of-victory (38).
There were great individual performances as well. Brendan Winn hit for the cycle in this game, and Steve Pearce had five hits, 2 HRs and 7 RBIs.
The USC pitching staff was outstanding as well, as five pitchers combined for the shutout, striking out 17 Buccaneers. Jason Fletcher pitched five innings for the win.
