The magical season continued for Carolina, as they won for the 16th time in their last 17 games 69-58 at Tennessee. The ninth-ranked Gamecocks defeated the Volunteers for the fifth straight time, and ran their SEC record to a remarkable 13-1.
Carolina led 35-30 at halftime, but raced off on a 10-0 run to start the second half, ending UT’s upset hopes. The Gamecocks kept the Vols at arm’s length the rest of the way, cruising home with the SEC road victory.
The big three of Melvin Watson, BJ McKie and Larry Davis once again dominated, scoring 51 combined points. With his 19 points, Davis joined the elite company of John Roche and Grady Wallace as the only Gamecocks to reach 1,000 points in less than two seasons.
