The Lady Gamecocks finished a memorable season by beating Louisiana Tech 77-69 in the consolation game of the AIAW Tournament. The victory gave USC a third-place finish in the national women’s championship tournament.
The 1979 Lady Gamecocks were led by the great Katrina Anderson, who was named as Carolina’s first women’s basketball All-American. Anderson averaged 18.9 PPG for the season, and established numerous school single-season records. Some of her marks, such as points scored (754), FG percentage (.563), rebounds (436), and steals (126) still rank in the top ten today. Katrina is a member of the elite USC Hall-of-Fame.
