The Gamecocks advanced to their second-straight NIT championship game with an impressive 78-63 victory over Rick Pitino’s Louisville Cardinals at Madison Square Garden.
The turning point of the contest occurred at the end of the first half when Carolina went on a 17-4 run to post a 42-32 halftime lead.
USC shot an amazing 60 percent in the game, mostly pounding it inside to its big men, Renaldo Balkman and Brandon Wallace.
Balkman had a dominating performance. He finished with a team-high 23 points, 8 rebounds, and added 4 blocked shots. Wallace added a career-high 19 points as well.
The Gamecocks would face Michigan in the championship game two nights later.
