USC used the longball to crush the LSU Tigers 18-4 in Baton Rouge.
Carolina pounded out 18 hits, including four home runs, to clinch its third consecutive SEC series victory.
Carolina jumped ahead 2-0 in the second after freshman Justin Smoak connected for his fifth HR of the season. In the fourth inning, USC added four more runs to make it 6-0, and essentially put it out of reach. USC continued to pile on though, aided by homers from Trent Kline, Robbie Grinestaff, and USC career games played leader Michael Campbell’s 3-run shot. Amazingly, Carolina scored 11 of its 18 runs after two were out.
Freshman starting pitcher Mike Cisco ran his record to 4-0, pitching seven strong innings, allowing two runs on only three hits.
