Carolina captured the season series 3 games to 1 over arch-rival Clemson with a 2-1 victory, despite sitting through a two-hour rain delay at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Four USC pitchers held the Tigers to only five hits, with reliever Blake Taylor pitching out of a fourth-inning jam to pick up the win. Lee Gronkiewicz pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to collect his 11th save of the season. A throwing error by Tiger pitcher Steve Reba allowed Michael Floyd to score the go-ahead run in the fifth. Play was then halted in the bottom of the fifth for the weather. Upon returning to action, neither team was able to score in the wet conditions. It was a long night for both teams, as the final out wasn’t recorded until shortly after midnight.
