Carolina completed a three-game sweep of the hated Clemson Tigers with an exciting 6-5 victory in the finale. USC pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch by Clemson ace George Stone.
The hero in this one for Carolina had to be reliever Steve Boley. Boley came into the game in the first inning and got out of the inning without major damage. He then pitched the next 7 1/3 innings, keeping the Gamecocks within striking distance. Clint Sawyer pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win for USC, after the 8th inning CU wild pitch.
The hitting star for the Gamecocks in the game, and the series was Keith Killian. He went 2-4 with two ribbies, his sixth and seventh RBIs of the series.
