It was a day to remember for USC centerfielder Garrett Carter.
He not only hit two homeruns in a 7-6 thrilling win against Clemson, but also made three outstanding defensive plays to preserve the victory. The biggest play came in the ninth inning with Tiger runners on first and second base. Carter raced into the right-centerfield gap and made a lunging catch of a drive off the bat of the Tigers’ Henry Threadgill to end the game.
“It started rising on me, it was hit really hard. And the ball was carrying well in right-center. It almost got away from me, to tell the truth,” Carter said afterwards. Thankfully, it didn’t. It was the first two homer game for Carter as well. Yes, it was a memorable day indeed.
Garrett had an outstanding career at Carolina. His 47 homers put him third all-time, while his 168 RBIs place him tenth on the USC career list.
