It’s great when the Gamecocks defeat the Florida Gators, but it’s doubly sweet to take two games in one day. That’s just what USC did in sweeping a double header in Gainesville by scores of 4-2 and 4-3, with the second game being a seven inning affair.
In game one, USC starting pitcher Jared Baker got the win with help from Rob Mosser, who picked up his seventh save of the season. Baker had some trouble with control in the first inning, as he walked in two runs for Florida. However, that was it for the Gators as Baker shut them down the rest of the way until the ninth inning support from Mosser secured the 4-2 victory. Left fielder Jerry Shepherd had the big blow for Carolina when he went deep for his 11th home run of the season.
In game two, starter Matt Threehouse pitched five innings in the seven inning game to get the win. He allowed three runs on seven hits. Carolina scored all four of its runs in the first inning, and then held on for the 4-3 victory and double-header sweep of their SEC East rival.
