One of Carolina football’s all-time greats was born on this date in 1978.
John Abraham was born in Timmonsville, SC, and attended Lamar High School. John had a superb career at Carolina (1996-1999), and is still performing at an All-Pro level in the NFL. His 23.5 sacks rank third on USC’s all-time leader board. He led the team in sacks all four years that he played.
John was a first-round draft pick by the Jets in 2000 (13th overall), and has played 12 years in the NFL with the Jets, and the Falcons. He has accumulated an amazing 102.5 sacks in his NFL career, 2nd-most among active players, and 21st all-time.
An interesting tidbit, Abraham is inching closer to an NFL Hall-of Fame career. Could he be the first Gamecock player elected to the Pro Football Hall-of Fame? It is something to keep an eye on.
