The Gamecocks stayed alive to play another day, pulling out a memorable 3-2 victory over Oklahoma in a game that went twelve heart-stopping innings.
The winning rally came in the bottom of the twelfth, after the Sooners had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the inning. Robert Beary started the inning with a single. Then, closer Ryan Duke struck out Evan Marzilli and got Whit Merrifield to pop out, bringing Jackie Bradley to the dish. With Beary now on second, Bradley, who was 0-5 in the game, drilled a 3-2 pitch for a clutch game-tying single. Two batters later, Bradley came around to score the winning run on Brady Thomas’ single up the middle. “It was an incredible win,” USC coach Ray Tanner said. “It was never-give-up-day.”
The Gamecocks advanced, and would next meet arch-rival Clemson, who they would have to beat twice in order to advance to the championship series. Could it be déjà vu from ’02?
