Former Gamecock All-American shortstop Brian Roberts had a nice day at the plate for the Baltimore Orioles.
Roberts, now playing second base, homered off of Cleveland ace Cliff Lee, and drove in three runs. He went 2 for 5 on the day, but it wasn’t enough to push the Orioles to victory. Baltimore fell to Lee and the Indians by a score of 9-4, despite Roberts’ heroics.
Roberts, a UNC transfer, had a big year in 1999 for the Gamecocks when he was named an All-American. Brian batted .353, led the team in homers with 12, runs with 79, and doubles with 21. Although those numbers were impressive, the most impressive had to be the school-record 67 stolen bases he amassed in 1999.
