Dave Hollins became the first former Gamecock to pick up a hit in Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.
Hollins (Phillies) entered the game in the sixth inning, replacing Gary Sheffield at third base for the National League. In his first at bat in the eighth inning, Hollins lined a double to right field off pitcher Rick Aguilera which sent Bobby Bonilla over to third. Dave was eventually stranded at second after a popout by Andres Gallaraga and a strikeout by Jeff Blauser. None the less, Hollins was in the All-Star record book with a 1.000 batting average.
The A.L. All Stars won the game against manager Bobby Cox and the N.L. by a score of 9-3 in Baltimore.
