South Carolina Gamecocks legend Alex Hawkins was named to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Football Team. Hawkins played halfback for USC from 1956 to 1958.
Hawkins capped off a nice career at Carolina by being recognized as the ACC’s Player of the Year in 1958. He rushed for 450 yards, and added 133 receiving in the all-star campaign. He rushed for career high of 129 yards vs. Furman on November 3, 1956.
Alex was the only USC player named to the ACC’s All-Time team. Carolina left the Atlantic Coast Conference after the 1971 football season.
Hawkins was inducted into USC’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1970.
