Even though the baseball season was still six months away, Coach Ray Tanner was able to name his opening-day starter after Kip Bouknight announced today that he would return for his senior season.
Bouknight, the Golden Spikes Award winner, turned down an undisclosed offer from the Oakland Athletics to return to Carolina. He was selected in the 21st round of the draft after going 17-1 with a 2.81 ERA.
Bouknight is the school’s all-time leader in wins with 45, and strikeouts with 457. He was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
