Campbell Warner, who graduated from Rock Hill High School in 2000, had won more than $37,000 on the show going into Thursday's broadcast.
In fact he was ahead going into the final Jeopardy answer but missed the clue and ended in second place for the night. The question was "what is ethereal?"
Warner has always had a good memory, said his mother, Martha Warner. When the family watched “Jeopardy!” when he was young, he always beat the rest of his family members, all teachers, to the answer.
“(Host Alex Trebek) wouldn't even finish reading the question and Campbell would be popping out the answer,” Martha Warner said.
While the episodes of “Jeopardy!” were taped earlier this year, Campbell Warner has been sworn to secrecy, so no one knows how long he’ll continue winning on the show.
“We’re hoping for a hat trick,” Martha Warner said about his third appearance on Thursday.
Following high school, Campbell Warner attended LaSalle University, then Baylor Law School. Since he attended school on an ROTC scholarship, he went into the United States Army, where he’s now a captain and JAG officer. He and his wife just transferred to Fort Jackson in Columbia.
