If you’re new to Columbia — or even if you’ve lived here a while — the entertainment possibilities are endless.
Here, some of our favorite things to do.
Discover art, whether it’s at the Columbia Museum of Art or one of the galleries on campuses like Benedict College, Columbia College or the Unversity of South Carolina.
Meet Eddie, a 40-foot exhibit of a boy that kids can climb in, at EdVenture Children’s Museum.
Speaking of museums, there are several where you can soak in our history, from the S.C. State Museum in the Vista to smaller, more local offerings in places like Lexington County and the city of Cayce. There’s an outdoor museum of sorts on the State House grounds, where you can view monuments and statues significant to our state’s history.
Make some new holiday traditions. Attend Riverbanks Zoo’s Lights Before Christmas, a community treelighting and parade, or a live performance of The Nutcracker by one of our local ballet companies.
Attend one of the traveling Broadway theater productions at the Koger Center or discover late-night shows with an edge at Trustus.
Community festivals are a much-loved tradition here. Among the annual favorites: St. Pats in Five Points, Lexington County Peach Festival, Sparkleberry Country Fair and Rosewood Crawfish Festival.
Cheer runners at one of Columbia’s many annual road races, like the Quarry Crusher Run or the Governor’s Cup. Better yet, join one yourself.
Shop a local market, whether it’s the State Farmers Market in Lexington County or one of the smaller neighborhood farmers markets in and around Columbia. Find ethnic food shops along Decker Boulevard, Columbia’s most international corridor.
