Alexandria Caroline Walker and Jeffrey Robert Schaffer II were united in marriage June 3 at the Presbyterian Church at Manning.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson Walker of Manning. Her maternal grandparents are Mrs. Harry Shingler Shuler Jr. and the late Mr. Harry Shingler Shuler Jr. of Santee. Her paternal grandparents are Mrs. Thomas Irby Walker and the late Mr. Thomas Irby Walker of Summerton.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Robert Schaffer of Sumter. His maternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Michael Hathaway Sr. of Sumter. His paternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. John Howard Schaffer of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. George G. Wilkes. Mrs. Margaret Bland Cooper served as wedding director. The wedding music was provided by organist Ms. Thommie Ruth Jackson, and harpist Mrs. Maryalice Hoyt. Mrs. Lisa Heaton Patrick and Dr. Elizabeth Patrick DuRant sang “Surely the Presence” and “Shine On Us.”
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory fit-and-flare gown. The fitted bodice featured a sweetheart neckline embellished with crystals and mother of pearl. The entire design was adorned with delicate lace appliques. The fitted skirt fell smoothly to a lace scalloped hemline that continued into a cathedral train. The bride wore her mother’s veil, a halo of silk orange blossoms, Belgian crystals, and wired pearls from which fell silk bridal illusion to fingertip length. The bride carried a bouquet of pink peonies.
Miss Caroline Elizabeth Powell of Charleston served as the maid of honor. She wore a long strapless fuchsia gown featuring a sweetheart neckline with a pearl necklace, earrings, and bracelet – gifts from the bride. She carried a silver mint julep cup overflowing with pink hydrangeas.
Bridesmaids were Miss Paige Charlotte Madeline Braziel of Connecticut; Mrs. Carley Powers Kersey and Mrs. Morgan DeBruhl Preger, both of Camden; Mrs. Ashley Page Mays of Manning; Miss Margaret Eleanora McCurry of Mount Pleasant; the groom’s sister, Miss Ashley Nicole Schaffer of Sumter; and Miss Jessica Ann Varipapa of Maryland. Their gowns’ color and fabric were identical to the maid of honor’s, but each chose a different neckline and bodice. The bridesmaids also carried silver mint julep cups with pink hydrangeas. They wore pearl earrings, necklaces, and bracelets – also gifts from the bride.
Best man was the bridegroom’s brother, John Michael Schaffer of Florence. Groomsmen were Mr. Bryan Rigoberto Castillo, Mr. Frank Joseph Kutcha, Mr. Christopher Anthony Lorenzi, Mr. Joshua Alexander Mercedel, and Mr. Sean Aundrevs Tyson, all of Columbia; Mr. Andrew John Krauss of Ohio; and the bride’s brother, Mr. Charles Nelson Walker Jr. of Charleston. Master Andrew Jeffrey Krauss, nephew of the groom, served as ring bearer.
The rehearsal party was given by the groom’s parents at Serendipity in Sumter. The reception was given by the bride’s parents at their home in Manning.
After a honeymoon trip to Aruba, the couple will reside in West Columbia.
