Settling in: 5 quirks about Midlands roads

Among some of the most traveled roads, things can change quickly. Several to watch:

Columbia’s Millwood Avenue becomes Two Notch Road as you cross Taylor Street heading north. At the same intersection, Taylor Street becomes Forest Drive as you head toward Forest Acres.

Columbia’s Devine Street becomes Garners Ferry Road as you head toward Lower Richland.

Columbia’s Gervais Street becomes Meeting Street when you cross the bridge into West Columbia.

Columbia’s Blossom Street becomes Knox Abbott Drive when you cross the bridge into Cayce.

Lexington County has a Sunset Boulevard, while Richland County has a Sunset Drive. Sunset Boulevard is the portion of U.S. 378 that stretches from West Columbia to the town of Lexington. Sunset Drive, north of downtown Columbia, begins near Palmetto Health Richland hospital and ends at River Drive.
