New Year’s Day: Jan. 1

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Third Monday in January

Presidents Day: Third Monday in February

Confederate Memorial Day: May 10

Memorial Day: Last Monday in May

Independence Day: July 4

Labor Day: First Monday in September

Veterans Day: Nov. 11

Thanksgiving and the day after: Fourth Thursday in November and the Friday following

Christmas and the day after: Dec. 25-26

Also worth noting:• The governor has the authority — and historically has exercised it — to declare Christmas Eve a state holiday.

• When a state holiday falls on a Saturday, the previous Friday becomes the official day off.

• When a state holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday becomes the official day off.
